Kraken Robotic Systems Inc. is a marine technology company engaged in the design and development of advanced sensors, software, and underwater robotics for Unmanned Maritime Vehicles used in military and commercial applications.

We are seeking a Senior Field Electronics Technologist to provide operational support, service, repair, and troubleshooting of underwater vehicles and sonar systems as part of our Robotics as a Service (RaaS) team. The successful candidate must be willing to travel frequently, working independently in offshore or marine environments, for extended periods as part of a fast-paced, deadline-driven team. The candidate will be based out of our COVE facility in Dartmouth, NS.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the establishment of project procedures when required
  • Complete mobilization and calibration activities to the standard practices and or to project procedures
  • Work with clients to integrate Kraken systems onto various vessels and assist with deployments of systems following Kraken’s Safety and Operational procedures
  • Assist Crew Chief / Team Leader with the execution of tasks ensuring work is within project targets and in accordance with specifications, procedures and work practices
  • Correspond with Kraken Engineers and provide solutions to technical and situational issues while in the field
  • Complete repairs, maintenance, and testing of equipment in use
  • Executes projects involving Surface Positioning and Subsea Positioning or Geophysical Survey (as applicable)
  • Performs Team Leader job role (as applicable)
  • Travels to survey sites worldwide to mobilize and deploy Kraken underwater vehicle and sonar systems and perform maintenance, repair, and technical troubleshooting on-site
  • Creates daily reports on field operation
  • Updates operations documentation and procedures
  • Manages and maintains field equipment and tool kits
  • Reviews team work as required
  • Transfers knowledge to other personnel, and actively participates in training and advising more junior team members
  • Identifies areas for improvement

Qualifications

  • Degree or Diploma in a relevant field such as Underwater Vehicles, Engineering Technology or Geomatics
  • Extensive relevant Field Electronics Technologist (or Survey Engineer) experience, minimum five (5) years. At least three (3) of those years should be in a senior role
  • Electronics and Electrical troubleshooting experience
  • Experience with underwater vehicles and sonar systems
  • Experience testing and troubleshooting software and electronics systems
  • Ability to service and repair fiber optic equipment and terminate fiber optic cables
  • Ability to read and interpret electronic, electrical and mechanical drawings
  • Experience installing and operating electronics equipment in an offshore or marine environment
  • Experience in use and maintenance of electronic test equipment and hand tools
  • Experience in the installation and connection methods of electrical equipment
  • Demonstrated technical skills along with a proven track record for success
  • Strong written and oral communications skills (technical reporting and engineering documentation)
  • Familiarity with offshore and workshop safety practices and approach all situations with focus on personal and workplace safety
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Must be able to work independently, as well as effectively within a team environment
  • High degree of organization, with the ability to prioritize tasks
  • Must have valid, current passport with no restriction
  • Basic Safety Training (BST), Offshore Medical Certificate (CAPP), Overhead Crane Operation and Rigging Training, Driver’s License are considered assets
  • Must be able to pass Offshore Medical
  • Understands surveying, data processing and geophysical principles (as applicable)
  • Understands the operation and theory behind Surface Positioning and Subsea Positioning or Geophysical Survey (as applicable)
