Ms. Katelyn Jordan is a third year student within the Ocean Mapping program at the Marine Institute in St. John’s, Newfoundland and is this year’s recipient of “The Kraken Sonar Dr. F. Mary Williams Memorial Award in Ocean Technology”. Faculty and the Marine Institute have described Ms. Jordan as someone who has consistently demonstrated a positive work ethic and professionalism, is a strong student within all ocean mapping cohorts in terms of academic ability as well as technological literacy and competency.
This award is only available to women studying in the field of ocean technology.

About the award:
In her capacity as Director General of the National Research Council Institute for Marine Dynamics, Dr. Mary Williams was a catalyst for innovation in Newfoundland and Labrador and beyond. She embodied the principles of applied research and partnership with the maritime industry. These principals are ingrained in the culture of the Marine Institute, an organization that Mary collaborated with often, with faculty and staff on arctic and oceans related projects and research. She was a review committee member integral in moving forward MI’s Master of Technology Management Program, a program that was first introduced to MI’s program offering in 2010.
